Fish n Rice

I wanted to make ”Fish n Chips” but I realized that I forgot to buy potatoes to make chippies (# … #)!!! so we just had rice and coleslaw to go with it!!! I was thinking of cooking Tempura….but I cooked quite a lot of Japanese food, nowadays…Ended up cooking fish n chips style (v o v )

DSC_0221[1]

Ingredients for the batter are, flour, baking powder, and cold water, and make sure you wait until the batter gets foamy. Do not cook right after you mix the batter, never gonna work like you buy from fish n chip shop!!! Sauce is up to you…I use sweet chilli sauce and mayonnaise. Oh, and also the deep-fried squid, it was 20% off from the price.

I will post more here and there, once I print more original t-shirts…( O  v  x  )!!!

Pet Bottle bracelet

I showed you guys the other days that I decorate stuff like hand mirror, but this time I used Pet Bottle to make DSC_0107[1]bracelet..Using the permanent maker to colour them, and add some of beads I like. I used the grow in the dark, this time! So it looks pretty good for kids or even adult who likes those kind of stuff( w  o  w!!). Like Me, lol

It is fun to make it but probability of getting a perfect beads shape from pet bottle is pretty low…and also depending on which pet bottle you are going to use as well…like fizzy drink one or 500ml bottle or 2L bottle…and so on. Once you get the perfect beads, it looks gorgeous!!!

Curry flavoured chicken breast with veggies salsa

It took me ages to figure what to cook for dinner…end it up using chicken breast marinated with cumin/coriander/cardamon powder, garlic, lime juice, salt and pepper. Don’t forget to put cooking oil so that it doesn’t get too dry when you cook it. veggies salsa, anything you like to eat would do..I used corn, onion, carrot, sultanas, shredded coconuts, and green pepper. For seasoning, add vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Nothing special but taste is pretty flavorsome (O u O)//. Oh, and when you cook the chicken, better put the lid on for 10 minutes to cook, then take the lid off and cook until nice colour gets on it!!! I do this because breast is pretty hard compare to thigh…so I use the steaming method at the beginning.

Deep Fried Tofu soaked in flavoured soy sauce

DSC_0218[1]One of the last night  dinner was this, Deep fried Tofu called ”Agedashi doufu”, commonly served in Japanese restaurant if you ever been there… It is very easy and simple, so please do not waste your money on this, when you go to the Japanese restaurant, next time. ( $  u  $ ) w..

How to make….Yes, very easy!

Before you deep fry, try to reduce the amount of water in Tofu by wrapping kitchen paper and put one of your dish on top but do not put too heavy otherwise it will break, lol!! Change the kitchen paper couple times so that when you deep fry, less oil spread occurs..

For ingredients, use cornstarch to powder tofu, and deep fry them until golden brown. For sauce, use fish stock (you can get the Japanese dashi one from Asian store), soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and water. If you do not have mirin, do not worry too much. Put them all into sauce pan and boil it for couple minutes, it is done! Remember, pour this sauce right after you deep fry the tofu!! You can use grated Japanese Radish or spring onion on top for garnish. YUmm….I didn’t do it because I did not have them…(—–_ ——;;;;)

Try it!!!

Porky Soup from Grandma’s pork leg

Here I am, finally I am done with the pork leg from my grandma!!!! Yay!!!!

It takes so long to make this pork soup but taste is AWESOME. It may look grouse, but the taste is guaranteed!!! You have to cook it until the pork leg is like a jello…like you don’t even have to chew on it!!! It is only eaten in Okinawa, and most people don’t even want to eat it just by looking at it, like my mother… She is from Okinawa yet she can’t eat it (— _ —;;)

More about this recipe, please check out on the RECIPE page.

Boiled and Seasoned Mackerel

Yes, I know… you might be thinking that ” what is boiled and seasoned???” It is just a basic method of cooking in Japan, called ”Nimono”, that put water and any ingredients and seasonings you want in a sauce pan, then boil it for 1 hr or so…until cooked basically!!!

I used Mackerel for this cooking method today…it is pretty commonly eaten here. People here say that Mother’s taste (Ofukuro no aji) , means that it varies home to home, and if you can cook it right, you are good housewife… some funny story attached to it. Well, why I chose this? because it was on SALE!!! Half price from the tagged price..Only $3.00 (about) for whole. You cannot miss out such a good deal( $$  o  $$ ) v

Nothing Fancy like any other Scone…

Making dessert is troublesome…well, at least for me (@_@;;;;;;;), because you just finish thinking about what to cook for dinner, and someone asking for dessert…but today, I even felt like having dessert!!! So the easiest way for dessert, SCONE! I really like them. Very simple but tasty. You can put anything you want such as honey, jam, whipped cream….etc

My scone recipe is very simple…most people use flour, sugar, milk, egg, blah…blah…blah…, I am guessing… but my one is just self-raising flour, sugar, water and little bit of yoghurt, No eggs and milk. Pretty tasty without them…unless you wanna use one of those fancy recipes…(> o <!)

I made the raspberry jam and whipped cream to go with it..yummy yummy yummy…My favorite, WHIPPED CREAM!!! This is heaven!!!!! Hope you can taste it as well ( ^  c  ^  /////)

Pizza Day

My son and I wanted to eat pizza, so we decided to make pizza together.

DSC_0214[1]

He helped me a lot, today!!! It was so helpful since I am pregnant and carrying my daughter while I am cooking…

We usually use tomato sauce for pizza but used BBQ sauce, this time. Yes, BBQ is also homemade!!! Use onion. garlic, 1/3 of tomato can, ketchup, sugar, salt an pepper..and make sure to reduce the juice from the tomato, and burn it until you can see the brown colour here and there!!! after that, add water and reduce it into half, and add ketchup! Once it is thicken enough, it is ready to serve.

The dough is pretty simple…just add flour, yeast, sugar, salt and water…nothing special…right?! lol

Thanks Grandma!!

Hello, everyone. It turns real winter in Japan….really really cold…

My town is surrounded by the mountains,so you feel extra cold even though it is only like….8 degrees. Today’s lowest temp was 1.6 degrees….Unbelievable!!! you can see your own white breathe when I went downstairs this morning(— _ —;;;)

Anyway… I just wanted to let you know about ”Thanks Grandma” is that, she (became 90 yrs, 2 months ago. Good for Her)sent this particular pork leg that I can not get it near my supermarket… It tastes sooooooo good, people are missing out here. This pork leg dish is originally coming from Okinawa Pref. where my mother’s family live. I am going to start cooking from today, takes more than a day… so I will post a picture when I’m done. It is basically pork leg soup cooked in the bonito fish and kelp stock.

to be continued….
